Love him or hate him, it doesn’t matter. The fact that he’s under indictment in four jurisdictions doesn’t matter. The fact that he’s a womanizer, a cheater, and an all-round bully doesn’t matter. He can’t tell the truth, even about the weather, when he used a sharpie on a map to expand the course of a hurricane he’d said, falsely, would hit Alabama. He’s told more documented, proven lies than any President, ever, probably more than any other living soul, and whether anyone believes his lies or not, it doesn’t matter. Whether or not he’s headed for prison doesn’t matter, either. In my view, he has two MAJOR strikes against him to be our President.
ONE: He violated his oath of office. Back in January, 2017 he vowed to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States, which he did not do when he refused to peacefully transfer power to the next President, and even went so far as to suggest suspending the Constitution after he cried foul on the outcome of the 2020 election. He and his cronies tried all manner of deciept and intimidation to overthrow the will of the American people. And because of his actions, faith in our electoral process has been stained for millions of his supporters. We elected him to protect our democracy, our way of life, not disgrace it. How would any American ever believe that his word, his oath, with his hand on the Bible, would carry any weight at all? I refer back to him being a proven liar.
TWO: After the classified document scandal at Mar-a-Lago, how can he qualify for a Top Security clearance, which is necessary to carry out his duties as President of the United States. There’s no doubt he had the documents. More than 300. There’s no doubt he shouldn’t have had the documents. There’s no doubt he obstructed the National Archive’s attempts to get them back. There’s no doubt he obstructed the FBI’s efforts to get them back. I don’t see how those events, which played out on television, need to be proven in a court of law. He stole them and wouldn’t give them back. Question is: Why? What did he intend to do with them? I don’t think he should be anywhere near our national secrets that protect our means and methods of garnering information from entities around the world who would do us harm.
I give the Donald credit for falling into a bucket of shit and coming out smelling like a rose. He beat two impeachments, and he may very well beat the indictments against him, maybe all 91 counts. There may never come a time when he’s held to account for all his misdeeds, his criminal acts, and for all those around him whose lives and careers he has ruined.
Just because he’s the biggest pig in our pigsty, and oinks the loudest, doesn’t mean he’s qualified to be our President again.
