Heil Trump!

When I saw this picture on TV, my blood ran cold. I realize some of these college students held up cell phones, but many were giving him the Hitler salute. They’re too young to know the true danger they support, the consequences of white supremacy, (Charlotte North Carolina) violence in the streets, (the Capitol attack) anti-Semitism (Tree of Life mass shooting) and their ignorance of history is well apparent in their actions.
It’s clear to me that over one third of Americans worship Donald Trump. Some poles say more than half, 58%, will vote for him for the GOP Presidential nomination. They have given their allegiance to a man and not their country, nor to the Constitution and the rule of law, and as Germans did back in 1924, these so-called patriots believe the man’s lies and ignore the fact that Trump, like Hitler, is determined to destroy America and tell us he’s going to Make America Great Again. These Americans would see the destruction of our institutions, our judicial system, or Department of Justice, our FBI, our voting infrastructure, rather than open their eyes to the truth. Trump is a con man, and they have been conned.
The Germans ignored the fact that Hitler was convicted and imprisoned for treason in 1924, just as Americans are now, in 2023, ignoring the fact that Trump has been indicted on 91 felony counts in four jurisdictions. Yeah, yeah, yeah, he’s innocent until proven guilty in a court of law even though his crimes played out on televisions all across the country. He’ll deflect and delay his trials until after the election, which he fully intends to win (and just might), whereby he’ll be immune from prosecution and, Federally, he plans to pardon himself. It seems that 1/3 of American voters approve of that absurdity, as they believe the charges against him are bogus despite what their eyes have seen.
The Germans believed Hitler was going to restore the Fatherland to greatness. He lusted for power and revenge, as does Trump now. He has outright declared that, if he regains the White House, he will seek revenge against his political opponents and those who did not support him and his claims of election fraud. Hitler blamed the press, blamed the government, and blamed the Jews for Germany’s downfall after World War I. The people believed him, as do 1/3 of Americans believe Trump when he attacks the media, the judges, the prosecutors, law enforcement, the Democrats, and Joe Biden himself for the indictments against him. It’s political persecution, he cries. I have done nothing wrong. It’s election interference, he decrees, when in fact, he’s the one who masterminded the biggest election interference conspiracy in this country’s history when he tried to overturn the 2020 election.
